Assignment #5: How do you like ESL Randall's Cyber Listening Lab as a language learning resource?

My English listening is poor. ESL Randall's Cyber Listening Lab is a good website. It offers three levels from easy to difficult articles. It also provides a lot of articles to let you choose. I think ESL Randall's Cyber Listening Lab is a useful tool for learning English listening. It takes me a little time to improve my English listening.

Assignment #4: Two clips from Randall's Cyber Listening Lab

1. Breakfast Recipes
mumble(verb)
Definition: to speak quietly and in a way that is not clear so that the words are difficult to understand.  
Example sentence: She mumbled something about needing to be home, then left.

mix up (phrasal verb)
Definition: prepare a food or drink by combining two or more ingredients  
Example sentence: Don't forget to mix up the eggs really well before you put them in the frying pan.

go wrong (verb)
Definition: to make a mistake or a bad decision
Example sentence: If you just follow the signs to the park, you can’t go wrong.


bruise (verb)

Definition: to develop a bruise or to cause someone or something to have a bruise
Example sentence: He crashed into a table and bruised his shin.

nasty (adjective)
Definition: bad or very unpleasant
Example sentence: She has a nasty habit of picking on people in meetings.

2. Snacks and Candy
buck (noun)
Definition: a dollar
Example sentence: Can I borrow a couple of bucks?

bummer (noun)
Definition:  a situation or event that is unpleasant or disappointing
Example sentence: Waiting all day at the airport is a real bummer.

cop (noun)
Definition: a police office
Example sentence: Quick, run - there's a cop coming!

tough luck (noun)
Definition: said to show that you have no sympathy for someone’s problems or difficulties
Example sentence: They lost a lot of money on their investment." "Tough luck - they should have been more careful.”

hit it off (verb)
Definition:  to like someone and become friendly immediately

Example sentence: I didn't really hit it off with his friends.
